Intended for training youth workers in successfully meeting the psychosocial needs of youth, how best to help youth build a full range of competencies needed in adulthood, and strategies to decrease violence and juvenile delinquency. The training is designed to assist in familiarizing youth programing providers with practical service strategies as well as mechanisms to assist the trainee in becoming a stronger resource to their organizations and community. In addition, it is designed to introduce the youth development approach, explain developmental youth outcomes, examine cultural assumptions and stereotypes about young people, present strategies for youth participation in programming, present best practices for supporting youth development, explore the core competencies of youth workers, as well as provide review and practice.
