TRAINER BIO: Lisa Davis Fobs

Lisa Davis Fobs retired in 2022 as the Director of Youth Employment and One Summer Chicago with the Chicago Department of Family & Support Services (DFSS). In 2006, Lisa joined DFSS as an Assistant Director for the Afterschool Programs and has held progressively responsible positions focused on youth development and youth employment programs. In 2011, she was appointed to manage DFSS, One Summer Chicago (OSC) Youth Employment Program. In 2013, Lisa was appointed the Director of OSC. Under her leadership One Summer Chicago became the 2nd Largest Summer Youth Employment Program in the Nation. Currently the City of Chicago continues to hold that position.

Lisa is originally from Brooklyn, New York, she moved to Chicago in 2006. Lisa has been a driving force in youth development for over 35 years. Her professional experiences have put her youth development programming on the national and international maps. From providing organizational thinking and programmatic support to 23 major cities in the U.S. through the Cities for Financial Empowerment to hosting youth development and workforce development round tables with other municipalities from other countries such as Brazil, Portugal, Japan and England.

Before joining DFSS, Lisa worked with New York City Housing Authority as the Citywide Senior Program Manager for the Borough of Brooklyn, served as a New York State Parole Officer and a Case Manager for the Bureau of Child Welfare.

Lisa was once labeled a Dream Catcher by one of her young participants. She embraced that title every time she created a new program. Her dream is to make their dreams come true. Until this day, Lisa maintains a close relationship with her team of young people to help them navigate through this thing called life.

Lisa believes in building and supporting a socially and civically conscious citizenry for young people, families and communities that have been disproportionately marginalized. She is a proud resident of the Southside of Chicago. Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ohio University. Senyah Haynes has been a youth development practitioner for more than 20 years and she was certified in AYD in 2007. She has created curricula and facilitated workshops for the Obama Foundation, the Gary Comer Youth Center, The Community Builders, After School Matters, Greater Chatham Initiative, Diasporal Discoveries, Teens Take On Climate, and more. In addition to being a trainer and workshop facilitator, she’s also an artist and the author of the children’s book series, Jayla’s Jaunts.

 Training Description

AYD (Advancing Youth Development) is a training that gives youth workers and program practitioners an opportunity to hone their skills as youth development professionals.
