Training Description
If My Voice Really Matters, Let Me Speak! Using Assessments to Take Youth Development to the Next Level. When leading in youth development, measuring a youth’s level of risk and needs can help adult leaders make early decisions on the level of care and attention needed to help track their progress and growth. In this workshop, participants will review different types of assessments to help determine what needs to be taught, how to teach it, and measure its effectiveness through diagnostic, summative, and formative assessments using qualitative and quantitative methods. Participants will also be given free leadership, personality, and career assessments to help youth determine their strengths and language needed for job/interviews, college and scholarship essays, and assist them with organizing team projects with limited conflict. Empowering youth to use their voices from inputs on surveys, feedback from group discussions, and assessments paints a clear picture of various levels of youth development: assessing their top priorities, issues related to programming, technology use, and more.
Training Objectives
- Understand the benefit of youth assessments (behavioral, leadership, impact, programming), the evaluative methods used to track progress, and how they impact the level of youth involvement, community engagement, and youth retention within community programs
- Empower participants to establish a timeline of assessing throughout the year, create a committee leader to review results, and form a team to discuss appreciative and constructive feedback to implement any changes (don’t leave it on the board)
- Conceptualize the youth perspective and the need for their voices to be heard annually
- Create a teamwork project where participants show how youth assessments can grow their organization (3 assessments must be taken in the workshop before the team project)
